Captain Whitlatch spent his life in the aviation industry, dedicated to improving flight standards and safety while enhancing pilot performance. His efforts in key leadership positions have been recognized throughout the airline, aviation and aerospace communities as instrumental in helping to develop the safest, most efficient transportation system in the world.
- His passion for flight began at age 11, when he got his first aviation job as a Aline boy@ at a local airport.
- Captain Whitlatch worked his way through flight training, earning his private pilot license when he was only 17 years old.
- He went on to astonish his instructors by earning his commercial license on his 18th birthday
- Selected for a prestigious National Merit Scholarship and attended the Case Institute of Technology.
- Selected for Air Force Pilot Training and earned his wings.
- Left the service in 1964 to begin a distinguished career in civilian aviation
- Spent 24 years at United Airlines, helping to build the largest, most respected aviation network in the world.
- Held numerous senior leadership positions
- San Francisco Flight Manager: responsible for all aspects flight crew management at one of the busiest domiciles in the United system.
- Served as United=s Chief Pilot in Denver for an astounding 8 years.
- Instituted numerous innovations and improvements, including an extremely complex and challenging transition of the entire Denver flight operation from Stapleton Airport the Denver International Airport.
Culminated a distinguished career at United Airlines as Vice President for Standards and Training.
