The real-life story of how we all can truly make a difference in a young persons life:
Quincy is an African American teenager mentored by one of our Pro Flight Futures volunteers. His father was tragically killed and his mother is in jail, serving time for a drug conviction. Adversity continued to follow, when Quincy’s grandmother, who had been caring for him, suddenly died. Quincy was left a very bitter young man. He endured more pain in his short sixteen years then many experience in a lifetime. His high school counselor contacted Captain Eric Mosley, one of our PFF volunteer mentors, with a grave concern that Quincy was on the fast track toward self-destruction. The counselor was out of ideas, but recalled that Quincy had expressed an interest in aviation. Captain Mosley took up the challenge. Providing the mentoring that he so desperately needed, Mosley laid out the steps that Quincy needed to take in order to reach his goal of becoming a professional pilot.
Mosley provided the role modeling, motivation and guidance. Quincy provided the hard work. The effort paid off. Quincy learned how to fly and is now well on his way to becoming a professional pilot! Life hasn’t gotten any easier for Quincy, but he now has hope, and a Flight Plan For Success.
Pro Flight Futures Inc. (PFF) is a one-of-a-kind 501(c)-(3)organization. Our mission is to help young men and women from underrepresented communities realize that "the sky's the limit". We inspire, motivate and educate promising students and enhance their teacher's knowledge about the unlimited opportunities in the aviation and aerospace industry. Our staff of dedicated volunteers have decades of professional experience. The lack of effective resources, role models and ongoing support produces barriers that, for many, are insurmountable. Pro Flight Futures removes those obstacles. Using state-of-the-art web resources, professional seminars, and personalized mentoring, Pro Flight Futures will help these promising students realize their dreams.
The goal of Pro Flight Futures is straightforward, achievable and quantifiable: Increase the number of under-represented individuals (economically challenged, women and minorities) in aviation and aerospace professions. Specifically, our target is to make direct contact with 100,000 students annually and to develop a pool of 1,000 students each year who commit and continue towards earning their basic flight or aerospace qualifications, or who enroll in formal aviation / aerospace training programs after high school graduation.
